Three Must Have Insurance Coverage For A Rental Truck
In normal circumstances, you don't have to worry much about rental car insurance because your standard car insurance coverage may be adequate. If you pay by credit card, then the card company may also offer you coverage. However, this usually doesn't apply to big rental trucks, such as the ones you would use for moving since their weights usually exclude them from such coverage. In most cases, you have to buy separate coverage for a rental truck. If you are in that situation, then make sure your coverage includes these four things:
Damage Waiver
With damage waiver coverage, you don't have to pay the rental company if you damage or lose (for example via theft) its truck. With it, you don't have to dip into your personal finances when the big truck proves too much to handle in traffic, and you dent one of its doors.
If you want full coverage, then buy Personal Damage Waiver (PDW) to ensure you don't pay even a single cent in the case of loss or damage. However, you can reduce the cost of the coverage by opting for Limited Damage Waiver (LDW) that includes a deductible you have to pay before the company settles the rest.
Supplemental Liability
As mentioned above, big trucks can be difficult to handle in traffic, especially if you don't have prior experience. Therefore, you may hit and seriously damage another car when attempting to make a turn. Supplemental liability protects you from the possible claims arising from such accidents. Without it, you may have to dip into your bank account (that may not even be enough) to pay for the damages.
Personal Accident and Cargo Protection
You also need to protect your body and merchandise, and this is where the Personal Accident and Cargo protection (PAC) comes in. It covers your bodily injuries and damage to your cargo, but not theft. Confirm with the company any other exclusion that it may have on this protection plan. For example, in some companies, PAC will not apply if you are using the truck for commercial purposes.
Most people hire moving trucks when they want to move heavy or multiple items. Both of these are likely to be expensive, so you need to take these protective measures seriously. Even if you aren't too concerned about your body or cargo (that is highly unlikely), you have to think about the liability you may incur if you damage other people's trucks or injure them. To find
